Dubai Shopping Festival

For the months of January and February, Dubai has an official “Shopping Festival” going on, which seems to be kind of a big deal. I must say, the shopping festival here in Jan-Feb is pretty similar to the one we have in the U.S. from Nov-Dec. The largest mall in the world (Dubai Mall) was at critical mass today. Elevators were overloaded, queues at the escalators… if a fire broke out in the mall, the lower levels would be a death trap. I’m pretty sure they have occasional tramplings when the sales are good enough here, just like in the U.S. The whole atmosphere was both entertaining and exhausting. We got a little shopping of our own done and picked up some stylish new threads.

Got a few pics to add to the Dubai gallery. We went to top of the Burj Khalifa…. those kind of things are always the same, but requisite with visits nonetheless. Food has been great as always, but we took note of a “camel milk” cafe which we thought was interesting. Camelccinos, very expensive camel milk chocolate, all sorts of stuff. We grabbed a camel milk ice cream, which had a unique and excellent flavor. Anyhow, just as we’re starting to get the flow of things here and blend in a bit, it’s time to go on to the next stop tomorrow…. early flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka. It’s been fun! We’ll have to hit up Abu Dhabi on the next visit, as this one just didn’t have enough time.

  1. You guys look good in the new outfits! And hope the icecream looks delicious. I hope Mike didnt give you the thumbs up when trying the outfit on Marthita, because if he did then we truly know what he thinks ;-). Keep having fun and take more pictures!!

    1. Can Emma pick us out with “quien es?” We’ve both been laughing about her “Burj al AHB” and “Amel” (Camel)

  2. Martha picture number 35 is gorgeous!

Mike, please, please, please, tell me pic #25 is you drinking a Camel milk cocktail of some kind.

  3. Good work….. It appears Halloween costume shopping for 2014 can be marked off your list of things to do.

  4. Best picture ever! I never thought I’d say this but Martha you look shockingly pretty in that burqa or hijab whatever it is!

I’m loving your blog! Safe travels tomorrow!

  5. Honestly, the pictures of the city look quite surreal from the top of the Burj Khalifa. How does camel milk taste? I’m sure it has a different taste, but not one in the “peculiar” range. Either way, looks like things have been enjoyable throughout your trip! Stay Safe!
