Maybe this a little premature. I’m close to 20 out of 55 African countries and I’m ready to declare a winner. Now, I can imagine the winners on many lists and I’m gonna have to disagree. I’m sure plenty of people would tell you to visit Botswana if you only go to one country here. Kenya & Tanzania would probably top the list for many. South Africa would also be a likely top pick for many travelers. As for my experience, Namibia stood out as by far the most fun to visit.
From game drives in Etosha, exploring offbeat expat enclaves like Windhoek, or the stark beauty of the Skeleton Coast & Namib-Naukluft National Park, you can pack a pretty diverse itinerary into a short visit. What’s more, it’s reasonable to self-drive and you aren’t going to get the crowds of more popular destinations.
We had a great time exploring the country like a group of chucklehead hooligans.
