A couple days in Addis Ababa during Timkat celebration

We weren't really prepared for the scale of the festivities going on here. Just endless throngs of people.

Shoulder-to-shoulder leaving Timkat area. This is why you get warned about pickpockets here. Surprisingly, nobody tried us here.

The hordes of people from Timkat were all over the city. This is just on the outskirts of Merkato, different side of town from the parades.

One of our more interesting cab rides. The car is a Soviet-made Lada.... everything manual, and nearly nothing in working order. The doors didn't close right, things were held together with tape and glue. The driver had to push-start the car, getting us moving downhill with the engine off and reassuring that the car would start fine. The driver definitely knew all the quirks of the car.
