Several days staying with family in Taipei, visited Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, and Shifen
Sunrise view from our apartment by Taipei Main Station.
Emma was pretty pumped to explore the city, as long as we kept the action broken up into like six-hour segments.
Apartment building had a dizzying center courtyard opening (24th floor).
Taipei subways are as clean and timely as Singapore or Tokyo.
Near Longshan Temple, there was a market that included some fortune-tellers offering services. I'm not sure the relevance of this badass horse..
...or this rooster.
Conceptually complete Pokemon beverage offering... and they're actually delicious.
"Modern Toilet Restaurant" was a hit with Emma.
Chicken curry
Spicy beef bowl
Turd sandwich... and yes, the kebab had pieces of corn for the full effect.
Dessert included
Taipei 101
Views from Taipei 101, 89th floor
Creeper mirror flooring
Emma was wiped out middle of first day
"Damper baby" in Taipei 101, reduces building sway.
Sunset from Taipei 101
Really liked the view from our apartment, but all the glass would make a greenhouse effect, heating the place up beyond what the air conditioning could handle. It gave an incentive to clear out of the place fairly early in the morning.
Yehliu Geopark, about an hour drive outside Taipei
Definitely a kid-friendly place, Emma had a great time there
We only had an hour or so here, but there were trails that would allow for hours of hiking with really beautiful scenery
Would have liked more time here to enjoy views like this
Tea house in Jiufen
Emma working on our lantern in Shifen
Emma was convinced our lantern couldn't go far and must have landed just a block or two away.
Lots of lanterns taking off
Conveyer belt dim sum
Dim sum in Taipei
Fuhang Doujiang fried breads (breakfast) was really delicious... line almost going out of the building.
Emma did enjoy the fried bread just fine
Din Tai Fun (soup dumplings!)
Shilin Night Market in Taipei
Emma was impressed by the flamethrower grilled meats in Shilin
